PrecisionHawk granted beyond line of sight operations

Now that Part 107 is officially in effect, the FAA will begin granting waivers that will allow some businesses to waive some rules if they can prove they can fly their drones safely. PrecisionHawk has announced the FAA has granted it a beyond line of sight (BLOS) waiver for its commercial operations. The waiver was based on PrecisionHawk’s Pathfinder work, where it has been researching and testing BLOS with the FAA.

DroneDeploy raises $20 million to advance aerial data collection

DroneDeploy is preparing for the official release of Part 107 with a new round of funding that will go toward building additional enterprise features and providing deeper insights for businesses. Following the news that the company’s software mapped more than 5 million acres in just a few short months, the company announced a US$20 million series B round of funding. This brings the total amount of funding to $31 million.

Report: The commercial drone market is soaring

The FAA’s commercial drone rules will go into effect at the end of this month, but already drones are taking off all over the world. DroneDeploy, a cloud software platform provider for commercial drones, announced it has reached 5 million acres mapped with its software, just months after it announced it had reached 2 million acres. According to the company, it took 16 months to reach the first 2 million milestone, and only a quarter of the time to more than double it.
