Google is one of many companies looking to get its drone delivery service off the ground, and it already has its sights set on a date.
“Our goal is to have commercial business up and running in 2017,” said David Vos, leader of Project Wing, according to Reuters.
Project Wing is the company’s approach to delivering packages via autonomous unmanned vehicles, which was announced in August 2014. While Google and other companies have been working hard to get these machines off the ground, it is still in the Federal Aviation Administration's hands to give them the green light.
Vos would like to see the company’s drones to be classified as “Class G,” meaning they would fly at low altitudes and stay away from most manned aircraft.
There are still no details as to what type of drones or packages Google is considering for its commercial business.
