The commercial drone race is heating up as businesses from every sector of the economy begin to implement unmanned vehicles into their daily operations. Currently DJI holds the most dominant position for manufacturers in the space, according to a recently released report.
DroneDeploy has released its third Commercial Drone Industry Trends Report. The data comes from an analysis of more than 10 million acres mapped by DroneDeploy users in more than 160 countries across all seven continents.
The report revealed DJI is once again the top drone of choice, followed by SenseFly, 3DR, Parrot and Autel. The top industries embracing drones include drone service providers, agriculture, surveying, construction and education.
"More businesses are adopting drones to capture data across industries such as agriculture, construction, surveying, mining, and more," said DroneDeploy CEO Mike Winn. "It's clear that as our users experience greater productivity and ROI, they -- in turn -- are increasing the frequency of drone mapping and further integrating drone data into day-to-day business operations."
The report also states that users have generated an estimated $150 million in economic value over the 10 million acres mapped. This is a result of an increase commercial drone pilots, and the recently released of FAA’s Part 107.
Other findings included: 60% of DroneDeploy users create maps weekly, 97% are using multi-rotor drones over fixed wing, and the DroneDeploy App Market saw more than 22,000 app installs since its introduction.
"2017 will be the biggest year for the commercial drone industry to data," said Winn. "We can expect to see a dramatic shift in operations as larger companies invest in drone technology and the drone ecosystem blossoms with the introduction of key new hardware and software partners."
