Most comprehensive industry event brought together nearly 2,800 drone builders, flyers and buyers from 48 countries and all 50 states
BZ Media LLC announced today that InterDrone™ The International Drone Conference & Exposition held at the Rio in Las Vegas Sept 9, 10, and 11 drew 2,797 attendees from 48 different countries around the world as well as all fifty states. The event featured nearly 100 exhibiting companies in 148 booths. Chris Anderson, CEO of 3D Robotics and founder of DIY Drones, delivered the Opening Keynote address and called that moment in time as the equivalent of the dawn of the Internet.
Fourteen companies announced new products at InterDrone, including DJI, which chose to announce its new Zenmuse X5 and X5R drone cameras at InterDrone instead of a much larger European broadcasting show. The InterDrone Film Festival received more than 300 submissions from 19 countries and winners in five categories were announced at a reception.
“Our original goal with InterDrone was to be the largest commercial drone conference and expo in North America this year, but clearly the entire world wanted to be part of this event,” said Ted Bahr, Chairman of InterDrone. “More than 150 media and association partners on five continents have helped build InterDrone into the premier ‘Big Tent’ commercial drone event in the world.”
Thomas Haun, VP, Strategy and Globalization, PrecisionHawk noted that, “InterDrone had a nice balance with everyone from Fortune 500 enterprise-level customers down to individual drone operators. There were a lot of professionals regardless, whether it was agriculture, insurance or oil & gas, it was a really good mix. The variety of conference content created a buzz at the show and we will definitely be back next year!”

The InterDrone technical program was spread across three conferences, Drone TechCon™, for builders, engineers and software developers; Drone Flyer™ for UAV pilots and operators; and Drone Business™ for drone dealers and service businesses. 138 drone industry experts taught sessions or spoke on panels at InterDrone, and just over 1,000 of the nearly 2,800 attendees took the full three days of technical classes and sessions.
“Being a first-time show and coming here from New Zealand we weren’t sure what to expect but it was fantastic for us. The level of clientele coming to our booth were right up our alley for our high-level drones [$45,000-$60,000]. We sold 5-6 units on the first day alone. InterDrone hit our target market perfectly and we’ll definitely be back, said Shaun Mitchell, CEO of Altus.

Troy Jensen, and Analyst for Piper Jaffray reported, “InterDrone held in Las Vegas, inspired confidence in the UAS industry, especially the commercial UAS market. Almost all the companies attending the conference indicated ‘strong interest in UAS technology and an inflection in demand, despite the current regulatory environment.’ Following talks with multiple company executives, industry contacts and UAS users, we walked away from the conference incrementally more bullish about the UAS industry and specifically the commercial UAS market.”
Jeff Fassbinder, Director of Marketing at Yuneec Aviation Technology said, “traffic volume at InterDrone was greater than we expected. We had a really good mix of customers, including dealers who we were not particularly expecting. We are looking forward to exhibiting again next year.”
InterDrone 2016 will be held at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from September 7-9, 2016.
